      Keyboard Trick: Instantly Insert Today's Date 

Directions: Hold ctrl and press " ; " to instantly insert today's date. 

Bonus: Unlike the TODAY formula, this method acts as if you typed in the date so it won't change tomorrow. As you can see, 
the image date does not match today's date anymore but was the current date when entered.
